This is highly depends of Your LAN configuration, complexity of
firewall rule set, needs of encrypted VPN support, desired bandwidth,
and so on. All of that are a subjects of appropriate kernel and
applications requirements. 

Minimum hardware requirements are the same as for Your Linux
distribution, FIAIF itself needs almost nothing. I have it successfully
running on a quite different hardware, including ancient AMD 586DX4-133/
4 Mb RAM/ 850 Mb HDD.
